The University of Hamburg is offering a research position in the project “Science and philosophy of nature in the Byzantine world and in the Renaissance: “The Epitome physica by Nikephoros Blemmydes”.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section2of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 30 months. The position calls for 65% of standard work hours per week.
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
Researching aspects of the textual and manuscript transmission of Nikephoros Blemmydes’ „Epitome physica“ and its sources in support of an edition of the text.
A university degree in a relevant field. Working knowledge of Greek palaeography and codicology. Experience in textual scholarship and basic knowledge of Aristotelianism are a plus, as is a good knowledge of Latin. In line with requirementsof this particularthird-party funding, only applicants who have not yet completed a PhD at the time of their application can be considered for this position.
